Found this 1929 S Wheat Cent. I noticed that the S mint mark seems to be very close to the tail of the 9. Is that the way the mint marks were in that year. Ive looked at some pictures on the web and they seem to be farther away from the nine. Input appreciated.
They will be in different positions. They use a number of dies and I believe the MM was handpunched in. So it's not always going to be in the same spot. All the coins that were struck by the die that struck your coin will have the position there, and the others will be in different places.
Yep. Back then the mintmark was hand punched into every die so the location of the mintmark varied greatly.
