Here I have an 1880 Morgan silver dollar. With the 0 over the 9. Can anyone tell me the value of this coin as is? Also would this coin Be worth getting graded, or is the condition in to bad of shape to be graded? I paid 20$ for this coin. Hopefully I didn't get beat up to bad.
You can check this site: https://www.usacoinbook.com/coins/3210/dollars/morgan/1880-S/0-over-9/ Other members can help you with the grade. If you paid $20 then you got a good deal. Wait for the opinions of the Morgan dollar experts.
I couldn't see it either. The link I gave the OP shows they exist although on the site I couldn't see it there either.
I don't see any 9 in there, sorry. Having said that, there are 1880/79 overdates in all mint locations (https://www.coinworld.com/news/us-c...numismatics-winged-liberty-head-dime.all.html), so you might try taking a few more pictures that you can look at and say you think it best displays the 9 you see. Someone has already tagged @messydesk I will defer to his incredible expertise on these coins.
No offense intended, David, but do you know how many times I've heard, "It's as plain as day." from someone who is posting photos, here, while they are looking at the coin in hand? I still don't see it! That is why I asked for John's expertise. Chris
Do you have a loupe? Put that baby in front of your camera on your phone and snap some photos. Enlarging photos already taken, or using zoom on your camera doesn’t make the photos any more sharp, just pixelated.
I don't see it, either. There are only two 1880-S obverses listed with a 0/9, and those are VAM 8 (also used on VAM 9) and VAM 11. Both take imagination to see renmants of a 9, and neither looks like yours. For $20, you did fine buying this coin. An uncirculated 80-S, or even an AU58, is at least a $25 coin.
The 0/9 has polishing lines inside the 0 at 12 to 2 o'clock (VAM 11) that are missing on your coin. Not a VAM 8 and 9 either: They have raised metal in upper 8 loop. These are usually fairly easy to see so this makes me doubt you have an 0/9 or 1880/79.
