I'd appreciate opinions about this listing. 1851-O 3 CENT SILVER COIN-VERY LOW MINTAGE It looks to me like it's been harshly cleaned. The level of detail isn't bad, but the rim on the obverse is nearly non-existent.
Didn't know you were into 3 Cent Silvers cloud. Tough little coins to find with great detail. Yes, I do think it took a pretty good cleaning in the past. On the plus side it does have nice detail.
I can't figure it out either. It definetly is harshly cleaned, but the details look really good. I just can't figure out why the obverses rim is nearly gone. The reverse rim on the other hand looks "deeper" for lack of better word. Could it be some sort of strike error? I'm seeing it listed at between $200-$300 in xf40-au50. If the price is right.................
Yes, I like them a lot. I don't have a big collection, but I have a nice selection: a 1851 (no mintmark), 1855 (Type 2 with nice toning), and an 1862 with beautiful blue-green concentric toning. I just placed an order for an 1851-O but I don't have it yet. When I get it, I"ll post pics of the whole set.
Cool, I have a VG 51-O but got it cheap so I'm happy. Saw it in a lot of 7 on ebay. Good pics and seller didn't realize it. Paid like $80 for the lot. Commons but all G-VG. The 55 is tough. I have one and yes, it is cleaned, and yes I knew it when I bought it. Got a good price at a show and I never see them at shows. Had my 62/1 slabbed by ANACS. Came back a 63 (had hoped for better actually). Still a nice coin with some awesome die clashes. No doubt a fun series! clembo
Very harshly cleaned. Conspicuous parallel lines on both sides - telltale signs of a brillo pad. :headbang: Great series ! I may look into having a few more.
I never really got into the series. Just too small for me and my poor eyesight to enjoy. I do have an 1852 in VF that I paid $10 for a longgggggggg time ago.
I agree. I have a 1927 Peace dollar that looks exactly like that and I'll bet when the winning bidder sees it in hand it willl look much worse than in the photo.
