Picked this up for 8$ at a local flea market. Major in rev, but also slightly visible in the obv. What do you guys think? Any value?

A die clash is when the obverse or any portion there of gets on the reverse or visa versa. If that's a die clash please explain how you can see the obverse on the reverse. It's what I call damaged.

Agree not a clash. Either heat or extreme die deterioration

I guess the right acid could do that but I believe it to be Damage from heat.

Well thanks for the info. Explains why he was asking 10$ for a 40% half. Welp, thats a pricy mistake, and some expensive scrap silver!

has to be from one sided heat, the rims are gone on the left/right of the reverse.

This is a "rippled" coin -- an alteration. Most often seen on cents, the ripples are generally attributed to a rotating polishing or buffing wheel. But lacking experimental evidence, I'll hedge my bets. It's still something that couldn't transpire within a striking chamber.
