US notes are first sorted into blocks of 4000, so any with a serial number under 4001 are from the "first block". I personally considered serial numbers under 1000 to be "fancy", as well as all solid serial numbers (i. e., 11111111). But that was when you could buy examples of the latter for under in CU for under $200. When they got up to $1500 a piece, I sold all my fancy serial numbers, except for one serial number 1 note, a $5 piece of National Currency.
I pulled a 2003 ten dollar note out of change a week ago with the serial number DH 00000823 A. That's as low a number that I've found. I usually do not collect bills but if something catches my eye I usually keep it. I considered that a pretty low number. Now if somebody could tell me if it is worth anything, I'd appreciate a reply.
To me,any serial number below 10000 is a low serial number.I am always on the lookout for any low serial numbers that may turn up in change. We cannot find any star notes or notes with a 'ZZ' prefix,as they don't exist in the plastic notes we've had since 1999. One year,my boss gave me a $50 note to go & buy a bus ticket.I took a look at it & gave it straight back to him.He asked me,"Why?".I replied,"It's a 'ZZ' note".He gave me another note, which was not a 'ZZ' this time.I went out & got the bus ticket. The next day,I was given a Christmas card. What was inside it? It was the $50 'ZZ' that I had given back the day before.I still have this note in my collection. Aidan.
I have a $20 dollar bill with low numbers it's a 2013 and it is a star note MF 00017476* is it worth keeping
Low numbers are 5 or 6 leading 0's. Without a photo there is no way to judge condition. Star note lookup site says yours is on the rare side with a run of 320,000 and a total of 4,160,000.

Generally, the Low Serial Number is on the bottom Left and the High Serial Number is at the upper right... Bwahahahaa!!! Sorry..
Yeah, when your in the 10,000 range, its not considered a low number anymore For sure a Walmart spender.
I Love Zombie Threads! I'm HONESTLY curious. How does someone even manage to find a 13 year old thread?
Its actually easy, as i am sure there are many questions answered over and over Again and they just get put on the search engine so really simple when you look at it
Some might consider 4 digits low, but for me 3 digits or less. Most serious collectors I've spoken with have told me the same.
