at the bank the teller asked me if I wanted some “Red dot 5 dollar bills”. She had 25 red seal bills, all circulated. I know nothing about them but figured they’re worth at least $5 each. Is there any value in them?
It depends on the series date and what you mean by circulated. A well-worn example that is torn or has writing will be less valuable and desirable than one that has seen some circulation but is still fairly crisp and clean. Typically, circulated $5 red seals retail from $7-$9+ but like I say, it all depends on the series date and actual condition. Serial numbers and stars (if there are any) could play a factor in determining value as well. It'd be good if you could post pictures and give examples of the series dates that are represented in the lot.
Grab all of them! They don't make them any longer. They are always worth face value but can be worth more depending upon the following: Condition is everything For signatures Damage to the bill Serial numbers Date and series of the bill And a few other things.
Yes! I had several red seal $5s at one point. I sold every single one of them for between $7 and $9. I made between $0.30 and $2.00 after fees and shipping. Obviously not a great way to make money, but better than spending at face.
