They're at it again. Last week they unloaded several cast copies with the same story as this week, except this week they have different counterfeit cast copy coins. Check out what they're peddling: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...item=170206695843&_trksid=p3984.cWAT.m240.lVI Last week I saw one of the cast copies sell for over $700.00 to some poor smuck! I guess if there's a sucker born every minute, there's someone born every other minute to bleed them dry. Ribbit, Toad
Found in a cigar box inside the wall of an old estate. Seller knows nothing about coins. Sounds legit to me. What could go wrong?
This coin was found with MANY others inside one of two cigar boxes while excavating a wall at an old estate in Maine. O sure believe that. Happens all the time. Just the other day Brittney Spears, Paris Hilton and myself were digging a well in my back yard. Odd as I have city water. Anyway we found a bunch of 1804 Bust Dollars in a crate marked Box-o-coins. It was totally sealed and signed by none other than George Washington himself. Okay folks there are two options here. First being report. Second being email him with information. He's STARVING for it! He INVITES it. Now that's my kind of scammer. Just begging for input! clembo
Don't send information. It only fuels the fire! Someone messaged them about one coin in the last auction, accused them of "playing the fools" by not having any idea that they had a multi-thousand dollar coin and didn't have a clue as to what it's worth? Her well orchestrated reply was plastered/posted on the item as a Q&A and the bids went haywire. The piece sold for more than$700.00! Is that what you want? Remember, cons are cons and can twist almost anything you say! Ribbit, Toad :smile Ps: The same friend who looked at some colonials I was interested in, also looked at their colonials and agreed with me that they were cast copies. All it takes is to look at the graininess of the "quality" coins and you know they are cast copies. There's no smoothness to any of them except for the real coins they are also selling and those are garbage coins to boot. Sometimes, a coin, that's been in the ground or abused in some other way, can have a grainy look to it but ones that have lived in a cigar box for over a century or two . . . get real! So, the real coins are garbage and the great coins are garbage . . . clearly a con going down! A con will always use real cash/valuables to draw you in to suck you dry . . . and you wonder where the original idea of vampires came from? Ribbit - Ribbit - Ribbit
"Remember, cons are cons and can twist almost anything you say!" No kidding! According to my feedback, the Abom claims that I deal in counterfeits! I guess that is true, since I now own a counterfeit thanks to him.
Ahhhh .... because I thought everyone spoke/understood German? I fixed it! The link is now the English version. :goof: Ribbit :smile
I just retracted a winning bid on a $5 Dollar Gold Indian because things didn't look right. The coin was to dark/dull and the weight was almost .5 grams short. I'll be much more observant from now on, thanks to this Forum and what I've learned but the chances are, I'll still be had somewhere down the road. Ribbit :smile Ps: File that claim!
Course it's not what I want. It's all in how you phrase the question buddy. Look at what this last fool questioned them with. No wonder they used it to their advantage. A better angle is in the line of "Do you know a lot of seasoned collectors are looking at this coin and are convinced it's a counterfeit." Think they'd put that one up? Look at that first comment again. Hmmmm... maybe a friend sent that comment? Works perfect. Too perfect. This person has a feedback of under 10. This is when the scammers are most vulnerable. If they know you're onto them quickly they get real nervous. Believe me, I've sent a lot of "questions", get the occasional response and see a lot of auctions mysteriously disappear. If I can send a message it will NOT be anything they want to share. Like I said it's all in the wording.
I spoke of this seller in another thread, explaining how I asked for better pictures and they came back with the excuse they tried to send them but something went wrong, so I messaged them back from my email (private) and told them to use the "reply" and attach a copy of the pics to the reply. I never heard back from them. What's that say? They aren't interested in selling to everyone, just the ones that don't ask questions and they don’t want to send better pics, because the pics will give them away. As to their "body" count, at the beginning of their last auction it was ZERO, so that should tell how many they duped last time with their song-and-dance routine about the cigar box (about 5 the - other 5 probably bought something of value). They will play that until it runs out, which it's starting to look like people are getting leery of them because of the low bid count this time around. Then, they'll change their Ebay name come up with a new dance routine, and keep on strutting to the bank. As to having an accomplice, I actually checked out the person who asked the question and they appeared legit. I thought the same as you but it didn't appear that way. They had a 100% feedback rating and well over 100 of them, but that doesn't mean they weren't involved, just makes it less likely. Ebay doesn't care or they'd make it easier for us to notify them of frauds such as this seller and they are nothing less than frauds. Scum of the earth! Ribbit, Toad :smile
Absolutely Toad, This is why you nail them early and hard. Yes, they come back then you nail them early and hard. Broken record eh? What most of these morons DON'T realize is that A LOT of CT members watch and watch closely. A few actually have shown up on CT. Usually they leave in a hurry as the grilling is too intense and well founded. Kind of funny actually they waltz in to make a counterpoint then realize that there are some SHARP cookies here. No ebay does not police like they should but they do seem a lot quicker on the draw to complaints these days. Combine that with comments to the seller and the message does sink in. BIG CT BROTHER IS WATCHING!
We can't stop the scams on Ebay but we can cover our friends/members hineys. I've fallen to them (fake coins) and am currently awaiting a couple of refunds, but I'm getting better at spotting them. However, I'm bound to get hit again. That's Ebay for you! Awesome idea, poorly executed. All we can do is learn all we can and as someone said in another thread, know that after all we've learned, we still haven't learned much at all. Ebay is a cat-and-mouse game. The more you browse, the better your chances are of getting burned but when we find the fakes, if we post them here, maybe we can stop one person from getting hurt. Then we can shoot for two . . . then three . . . then four . . . It never ends! Ribbit :smile
I bothered to ask him a question. I asked him if he could provide better photos (even if he provided the originals before ebay crushes them in that picture viewer thingy). He tells me to "enhance the brightness on my monitor." I was expecting him to say "Be Well" at the end of the message. And it looks like he pulled the auction as well.
What, precisely, is the difference between a "sucker" and someone simply "gambling""? Regards and respectfully, but submitted to evoke introspection...Mike
That particular auction has been pulled... I wonder if the rest of them have as well? Anyone tracking them or remember the seller's ID?
They got the boot! Everything is gone. :computer: Dang! Now I've gotta find someone else to pick on. :mouth: Ribbit :smile
I think I found them... http://cgi.ebay.com/1652-New-Englan...goryZ528QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem This is the same crowd, yes?
That's them! I had one of their items on watch and it's gone so I fiigured they got the boot. They must have pulled it, either to relist another day or maybe some poor smuck made them an offer they couldn't refuse? It's so sad to see them making money off their scam and being powerless to stop them. Ebay doesn't care! I wish we could get Dateline to take a timeout on Internet Sex Scams and go after the scams we have going down on Ebay. It is what Ebay needs . . . a high profile slap in the face. Ribbit, Toad :smile
A young collector getting screwed? That happens every day on Ebay! :mouth: I just found someone who has 20 counterfeit Isabella Quarters, so beware! Now they're counterfeiting Isabella's! Ribbit :smile
