Unfortunately I wont be going but I love the Niagra Falls area. The wife and I was up there a few years ago and enjoyed it alot. Beautiful country up there.
TECHNICALLY you do not need a passport to cross over as yet... but if they ask, you need to have proof of citizenhip (Birth Certificate/Naturalization Cert, Passport, etc) Its not something I would fool around with. Read up on it! If they ask you and you dont have the documents on you, they will detain you until they have their proof (Like your relative showing up at the border with the documents). My friend has been detained 9 hours at the Niagara border for this. Be careful
You don't want to cross the border folks...the Canadians are ok but getting back into the good old USA is a real experience. The border guards (and I do mean guards) are less than cordial.
I don't think I'll get there this year... made it last year and it was a good show. Thalia Elizabeth has a Scout function on Saturday keeping her here-- which is ironic because there is a Scout function at the show on Saturday as well! Oh, well... Patti Finner, VP of the ANA is hosting that Scout YN event. She's also scheduled to come here to Rochester to speak to our RNA meeting on Thursday night (3rd). So if anyone's in this area and would like to say hello, PM me for the location. I've rarely had issues with crossing the border, but that's been with the family and most of the time there was a Marineland souvenir in evidence-- plus we have our documentation at the ready to hand to the border agent. Traveling solo has been a bit more problematic. Agree that on the Canadian side there's rarely a problem. I think the agent was very surprised when Thalia announced that the purpose of our last visit was (imagine a 7 year old shouting) "We're going to see Glass Tiger!!!!" But I digress... I would highly recommend the Gold Over Niagara show if you're in the area. The Casino Niagara is right across the street, and if you'd prefer to gamble with Loonies, the older of the two Niagara Falls Canada casinos is within what I would consider to be walking distance, just a block from the other side of the Rainbow Bridge.
See ya there! I will be there Friday during the day, and then I am taking my nephew to the scout merit badge lecture on Saturday.
