2019-5-29 4-29-24.jpg 2019-5-29 4-29-39.jpg is this a henning? Weight is 5.1+. It doesn't have the loop in the R, but all henning nickels doesn't have the loop. Lack of detail. Does anyone know about hennings

Your nickel is a decade late for being a Henning nickel...as well having a large P over the dome. Not a henning

I agree- no Henning nickels were made in 1952.
What you have is just a well worn coin.

What large P over the dome? There are 1953 no P hennings. A decade late? He made these nickels in the 50s. 1939, 1946, 1947 and 1953 no P mint mark are more difficult to find according to err-ref.com

The only nickels ever to have a P mint mark are the war nickels 1942 though 1945.since 1938 only Denver and San Francisco nickels have mint marks.Philly coin carry no mint marks....except the war years as stated above.

    What about the 1953 henning?

As Legomaster pointed out, there are no 1952-dated Hennings, so yours can't be a Henning.

Henning counterfeited 1939, 1944, 1945, 1947, and 1953 nickels. The most famous is the 1944 where he forgot the prominent mint mark.

What makes you think your 1952 coin is a counterfeit?

I thought it exhibited the characteristics of a henning. Rough fields, soft lettering and lack of detail. There were six obverse and reverse dies but only 5 dates listed, 1939, 1944, 1946, 1947 and 1953. What about the sixth date?

According to legend, Henning admitted to making a sixth die but no proof was ever found.

So, is it possible that another date exist?

Does anyone else feel sad about the fact that we engage in an authentication process for counterfeit coins?

Haha. OP is hoping his coin is a genuine counterfeit- interesting oxymoron.

Well, Henning's coins were surprisingly well made, other than the missing P on his war nickel.

Yes, it's possible. But none has been identified since Henning was caught over 60 years ago.
