I have a circulated Series 1974 $5 FRN with an ink smear at the upper left on the reverse.
Don't think there's much premium but I'd still like to know.
If I understand correctly this occurs when the "wipers" don't do a correct job between re-inking the plate or mat.

    That looks legit to me.
Ink smears are one error that are often faked, but in this case the color is correct.
The larger the better, but there is value here.
It's tricky to price currency errors. It's like anything else, it's worth what
    someone is willing to pay.
Numbers or Steve in Tampa might be able to give an approximation.
    Nice error.

Too bad about the pen mark writing on the front. That will make it less desirable to a collector.

Most error notes I see are from the 70’s, 80’s and early 90’s. I’m talking dramatic errors like missing printings, inverted printings and major misalignments. Ink smears have categories. Minor, Moderate and Major. The OP’s note would be considered minor. It’s still pretty cool and because of condition, worth about $25....maybe more.

Yep, I knew that was a negative.
And look to the left of Lincoln's portrait and you'll see a portion of what was probably a bank hand stamp that probably was mostly on a wrapper band.
I believe that the "100-" was the count of how many $5 bills were wrapped.

I agree with the rating of the smear as being "minor".
