1944 Dime Question

    I just came across this dime, and I saw a faint circle in the middle by the ear. I don’t think it’s an error from the Mint. My gut feeling is it was done by someone who owned it. It’s not an expensive coin, but how much will the mark affect the value.

    Even without the damage, it is a dollar item just for being silver and maybe $1.50 for being a Mercury. Damage happens all the time.

    I have several 1944 mercury dimes. I would say that it is worth about a dollar in the condition shown. Without the damage on the obverse, you might get $1.50.

    The damage came from something like this. They were called dime banks or change makers. I forgot.

    It's damaged but it's silver so with today's lower price about a dollar.
