Anyone know what this is? Reportedly from Vietnam during the war. Not sure it is even a coin. Any help is appreciated.
I am certainly not an authority, but it appears to be an Asian souvenir piece or a fabricated charm, not a true coin. The real experts should chime in in due time.
Sorry, I can't help with that possibly Vietnam coin or medallion. Except to say that my guess is that it is of an era long before that hellish Vietnam War. - Another heading, "Can anyone tell me what country does this coin come from ?" So I clicked, thinking I might get some clues. Only to get this chilling message - "Coin Talk - Error. You do not have permission to view this page or perform this action." I was flabbergasted !!!"
IMO...it looks like decorative hardware. The small hole on top looks like the place to put a nail; the middle square could be a keyhole; the bottom looks as if there is still a nail in it.
Yeah, I got the same result with two or three threads on today's "CoinTalk Update - 19 New Topics" email. Not sure what I've done wrong to get results such as that!
So, it can't be my whims or imagination - Kentucky and DEA have gone through the same mill. Seems, for the sake of our sanity, we must remember these words, always - No good deed goes unpunished !!!
When it comes to that message, I get it at times too. I think what it means is that thread has been removed or put "out of bounds" because of content? or some other reason, and no one can access that thread. The link that goes out to our feeds probably can't be removed and that may be why we get them after the fact. From what I've been told before, no one of us has done anything wrong, the thread itself is "restricted". That's my take on it, but only a mod can explain it for real.
I remember once when it happened to me, it was an already active thread about the Chinese "Junk" Dollar. I had been following and participating on it for several days, then one day, after following a link to it that came to my inbox, I got that same "Error....no privilege" message with absolutely no clue what was up. I started writing complaint messages to the mods demanding to know what was going on (as if I had the "privilege" to demand something). No mod ever answered but another member did, with basically the same explanation I gave above. Look at it like this : What good is it to be a mod if you can't keep secrets? Another way to look at it, and this is probably the more important way, is that the mods have to do certain things to protect this site and its owner. They will remove and/or restrict what ever they have to, to achieve that goal. Lawsuits are not fun and they are very expensive.
We need one of the moderators to chime in. I'v I've had a few of these Coin Talk - Error pages today. In the past when I asked @GDJMSP about this, his reply was very prompt and I was told the thread broke one or more of Coin Talk's rules. Usually the post will be removed "...and placed in a private area where all posts/threads that break the rules are placed". When we get that message it's nothing we did wrong.
So if we did nothing wrong, that's fine. But one can't help but wonder what enormous anti-"people" error that poor post committed, before being permanently exiled to Siberia ?!?!
Hmmmm - he kinda sorta said that Big Brother was watching everybody. But we're not - we're just watching YOU Bert
Well, GDJMSP. You say that "we're just watching YOU Bert." Unless you meant that "I'm just watching YOU Bert" ???
