    IMG_0132~4.JPG IMG_0134~3.JPG Weighs 2.3 grams.

First, the color makes me think it is plated. Also, I believe the copper is showing through in the upper right archways on the Memorial.

Second, LIBERTY has two very strong strikes, then a faint third. One of the two strong strikes would be smushed a lot at least. Also don't like the flattening of the faint strike. Plus, on many cents on dime planchets, details are cut off. Not on this one.

I also don't like the rims either.

Is this altered, counterfeit, or legit?

I am going with plated plus fake dies.

It looks the same size as a cent

On a dime planchet? Why is it looking penny-sized? I wouldn't touch it. But I also don't really do error cents, especially wrong planchets.

A dealer showed me this today. Asked me if he thinks he should buy it, and I said no way

Definitely either altered or fake- struck on a dime would mean that the coin has a smaller size, as said previously.

Reminds me of your Piacentile/Sheiner issue counterfeit cent.

Fake dies, imho. Lincoln's head, and all 3 Memorials (especially steps) lack details. Makes me wonder...

well if the coin used in a vice to leave an impression of the same side, but at different angels, would the impression be concaved or reversed inward, not outward?

    Good
I don't think this is a vise job.

There was a similar thread where people were creating these to sell as errors.
I believe there are photos as well that are similar to this coin, and Fred explained why it was a fake.
The dime planchet, I doubt it. If the cent has full rims, it can't be a dime planchet.
Also, not just this particular coin, but all of these threads about wrong planchets. Sure it happens occasionally, but it must be very rare.

This is definintely not a vice job. The details are all raised.

Gotta be fake dies...and I wouldn't touch it with an eleven foot pole...Spark

( In the '60s, MAD magazine had cartoon scripts in between the regular frames. One of them I remember fondly was "We have eleven-foot poles...for things you wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole")
