1914 D, fake or real, worth?

I got super excited when I found a 1914 D in an old collection, and then a bit dismayed when I was taking photos for my previous post and saw all the damage around the date. I took some better pictures on white paper.

Do ya’ll think it’s real or fake? What would you grade it if real?

Looks good to me and it is a shame about that damage. It would grade a lot higher if not for that, if it would grade at all.

 

I think it is a 44 that someone was turning into a 14 D.

It looks like the 1 took a hit on the left side and moved it to the right. It is copper and copper is soft. There is damage to both sides of this coin but the spacing looks good on a photo if I use what looks like the original position of the 1.

Spacing is off, if the left mark is the original location, then it is too far from the 4.

 

So much damage on the date.
Also the shoulder where the VDB was placed starting in 1918
is conveniently scrubbed away. I didn't compare, but you can always
compare the distance of the 1 to the 4 and then that bar in the 1944 to the last 4. If it's too close, it's an altered 1944.
As well as the distance from the 9 to the second 1. If it is wide or normal.

 

Altered I believe from a later date Lincoln cent.

 

In 1914 there was no VDB. After 1918 (?) the VDB was added under the shoulder. Seems like I can see something on yours...

 

Agree someone made it from a 44 and then tried to push the "1" made from the 4 over to divide the distance or multiple Damaged '44.

Even if it wasn't altered, and it looks like it has been, it would not be worth much in that condition.
