1977 Penny with a "J"

I have a 1977 penny that clearly has the letter "J" imprinted above the year and I thought the mint mark was a messed up P but from information I have found there isn't a Philadelphia mint for this coin....am I wrong? Please help...any information is greatly appreciated

Sounds like someone stamped it with a letter J punch. Is the letter indented or raised?

Seriously? It's damaged. You can see the hit on the rim. The seller is also the person that discovered this and he has not 1 but 2 of them available.

 

Just damage. Either the coin was dinged and it happens to look like a J or it was punched with a J punch.

Worth one cent.

 

What about the mint mark?

That J is not imprinted, it's cut into. It's damaged, just worth a cent.

 

There is such a thing as a Cheerios Cent.. Maybe this was an Apple Jacks Cent!..
