Welcome to the neighborhood @Neverending ! Since you think it is a Mint error, please explain to us how and where it occurred during the minting process. NOTE: This is intended to be a "learning lesson" for you. Chris
Curious as to if it is an error or if the mint mark has just been work off... I'm learning myself very very new
It is just a Philadelphia minted coin, they did not carry mintmarks until later. Somewhere in the 80's I believe they started using a P mintmark.
It looks to me that several letters are double die errors. The face has an odd textural appearance in addition to having that round circle indentation on it. Further examination is needed, don’t toss it for now !
@KEK52 you need to spend some time studying the minting and die making process. As you build your knowledge, it will be apparent that the "textural" appearance could not have come from the mint. You'll also recognize that the circular ring, is damage from crimping rolls of coins. Look at links like wexlers doubled die.com, variety vista and error-ref. it takes time to learnn . Many of the coin talk members have been doing this for decades. I'm coming up on 50 continuous years as an active collector and a week doesn't go by when I don't learn something new
At best, it was a trivially misaligned die, but not enough to be valuable (look up MAD at https://www.error-ref.com/). After that, it's been beaten to bleep in 39 years of circulation.
