    Hello
I have a 1791 George III spade coin but there is something odd about it. Everything I’ve read so far says that it should have writing around the coat of arms spade side that starts M B...
My coin, however, has J R ET JW REX F D T (there is a hole here so missing 1-2 letters) N(maybe)BY ST C M S P ET C and then at the bottom is 1791.

Can anyone tell me anything about this coin including its worth?

I’ve attached pictures. FYI the actual coin is a bit clearer than the pics show (but this was the best I could do without a better camera).

    Thanks.

The OP's item is a Great Britain George III Spade Guinea Token.

    I have a similar token:

Great Britain Gaming Token, imitation of George III Spade Guinea, Rex Tenby 1790

Obverse: George III facing right / GEORGIVS III DEI GRATIA
    Reverse: Spade Guinea design / JR.ET.JW.REX.F.D.TENBY.ST.C.M.S.P.ET.C / 1790
    Brass, 25mm, 3.17gm

    The inscription "JR.ET. ..." is:
"Joseph Rollason and John Wood, Rex, Fidei Defensor, Tenby Street (Birmingham),
    Chain Makers, Stampers, Piercers, Etc."
The inscription makes this an advertising token also.

    :)

@Seattlite86 what’s the weight of your George III Guinea?

Thanks! These and several other coins of various dates and types were found in with my parent’s things.

The tokens can be all over the map, but the genuine Spade Guinea should be 8.35 gm.

Then it’s probably not the real deal but only a brass token :-(
Thank you Doug for mentioning the expected weight.

True, but the half Guinea should only weigh 4.2 grams and be 20mm instead of 24mm.

I am aware of the 1/2 Guinea, but according to Numista the 1792 is a very scarce year. That’s why I thought it’s unlikely to be that one. What’s the diameter of your coin?

    29mm... :-/

Correction: 24mm but I don’t think it would’ve worn down so far so quickly and still be legible.
