That's a good question. Are official US Mint "Uncirculated" coins thicker than normal uncirculated coins (new ones that basically come out of bank rolls). I am pretty sure that proofs are thicker, but not sure about uncirculated.

It could be that the uncirculated cents that come from the "Uncirculated Sets" are different from the ones that come from the mint in rolls.

So I guess the question is: Are uncirculated coins that come in uncirculatd sets different from uncirculated coins that come in, for instance, bank rolls? And further, are the "W" cents made in a different way from all other "Uncirculated" cents - other than being made in a different mint?

 

Mint set coins supposedly are struck with a higher pressure which should result in more fully struck rims and thus the appearance of a "thicker" coin, But the blanks and planchets for both are the same size. So "thicker" is a misnomer.

 

Considering just the rim there is a big difference. 2019 W is 1.73 mm and a typical modern cent is 1.50. By my sample of only one.

 

The other "2" 2019 W penny which are the proof one and the reverse proof one i see no difference..but the uncirculated one caught my attention. There were..or still are...3 bonus W pennys for each set...for the uncirculated set..the bonus was the uncirculated penny...i still have not weighed it..but judging from the pic..i think anyone can see the big difference

 

My sample: the W uncirculated weighed 1.73 g and the standard modern uncirculated weighed 1.50 g.

 

That seems like a big difference to me. Can someone explain?

 

The coins are struck differently. Like a proof without proof serfaces. I believe the planchets are prepared different as well.

 

Reread my last post and think about it. Higher pressure = more fully struck rims = the appearance of a thicker coin but the blanks start out the same thickness.

 

I have received all three 2019W cent and it seems that Rockdafella is correct. All of the new 2019W cents are thicker and weigh more then a 2019 cent I pulled out of new roll. I have attached photos and weights. The cent piece on the right of each photo is new new 2019 cent compared to the 2019W Proof, 2019W Reverse Proof and the 2019W Uncirculated. The weights are show as:
