I have searched 336,000 Kennedy halves in the past 2-1/2 years and have found only about 100 keeper toners ranging from golden color (most numerous) to subtle rainbow color (usually just on one side). The best of these are going in my Dansco US Toned Coins Album. Today, I just finished searching 2 boxes and found 181 very toned coins. I believe they are all artificially toned given the dark blue, red, and brown colors. Plus, all are toned to the same degree on both sides. All are clad, only one is an NIFC (2006-P). Does anybody know how these got toned? Soaked in some kind of chemical bath?
Possibly someone attempted to gas the coins, but failed? I have heard of coins toning in certain albums, however, these don't look that way. Altogether, I'm not exactly sure of how someone toned these halves.
Hey @TexAg if you don’t mind me asking..what part of Texas are you getting all these half dollars? I’m down near north Austin and I’m wondering how you get all the cool boxes! Lol! I dont get squat here but a handful of NIFC’s. I’ve searched about 6 boxes recently and the best thing I found was a 1978 Proof! Horrible luck.
Only the person that toned them knows the answer to your question. Someways to AT a coin are heat, Vaseline, Crisco, urine, yeah that probably gives you an idea.
I know these coins don't look like other toned coins I have found. Are you able to call them AT by the darkness of the colors? Thanks!
