1998D cent lines between the columns...

    1998dfullrev.jpg 1998dfullobv.jpg Seems like there is a lot going on between the columns, almost looks like curtains...
    What causes these lines?

    Huh that's interesting. I've not seen one like that before. My first thought would be die polish lines. Strange that they are only in the bays though. Whatcha think @paddyman98 ?

    I think it’s PMD. Looks like somebody took a fine ball point pen and “colored” in the columns. Most of the ink is gone now. I just tried this on a Zlincoln and got a similar effect with only moderate pressure (sorry can’t get good pics). Try it yourself and see if you can duplicate the damage

    I think what you have is an inspection coin. Every once in a while, a coin is pulled out of production and inspected for errors. Once inspected, the inspector throws the coin back into the batch.

    Actually it is just PMD, I am sure it would grab most folks attention but only that upon closer inspection.
