1970-S Lincoln. Is this DD?

Discussion in 'Error Coins' started by PennyForYourThoughts, May 23, 2019.

  1. Hi there

I'm still pretty new to coin roll hunting and could use some advice on what type of error this is. I can't tell if it's DD or MR. I've never seen tripling like shown in the "T".

    Thanks in advance.

It is MD ( machine doubled) quite common is the San Francisco mint during late 60's early 70s. Here are 2 of mine, a 68-S and a 70-S mintmark MD. Jim 1970s.JPG

first clue that its MD = the date and mint mark are doubled identically, this is impossible for a true doubled die as the mint marks were hand punched into the dies after they were created and therefore after any doubling on the die was created..
