Hi. I am new to this. I have a lot of coins that I am speculative about but this one really has me stumped. It looks like there is an extra “o” or maybe “D” on Lincoln’s temple and in front of his forehead. They are raised from the surface. Also there is a ring on his shoulder but that looks like damage to me. Has anyone seen this before?
That's a 'hit' or contact mark -= probably done at the same time as the rim dings on the right side of the coin (and at 10:30 or so)
I figured on the three large marks but the two I was curious about were the two on his temple and in front of his face at about 12:00 and 2:00. They are raised from the surface of the coin. Not intentions with raised edges as are the other three marks.
If they're raised, then they're either plating bubbles/blisters or spots where the thin copper plating has been breached and the underlying zinc is starting to corrode. IMO, they look like corrosion spots.
