I see what you are saying but I see the staining stretch around onto the steps of the memorial as well. Not sure, could be grease or other substance on the anvil die, just hard to tell from the pictures. If it were a Planchet flaw it would show on the letters as well.
Dear Party of the Poopers and Burster of the Bubbles... lol If my 2 were a 2 the top tip of it would point more downward. If my 3 were a 3 the top tip of it would point more towards the 9. If my 1 appears higher than the rest does that indicate anything positive to suggest it being one or the other? How about thickness in numbering? My eyes still seem to most see a 2 when the photo ain’t cropped. That could just be from the imagination eye. I’m still gonna try to get a microscope to get me a picture of the area. I think I almost completely agree with you but I want us to be wrong, lol Thanks!
Yeah, mostly it was the thought that it seemed strangely coincidental that the obverse greaser is kinda bordered and outlined by staining on the reverse.
The same principle as water runs downhill. Whatever caused the stain ran off of the high points and dried on the lower points.
I thought the In God We Tru alone would make this the retirement coin I’ve been seeking, lol, to have it be a 1992 CAM as well was just way too much stress... like the big fish that got away stories which, I do have one of those in my arsenal, lol. Oh well, my ‘93 MAD Greaser is a keeper.
