I bought it some days ago and saw some luster and toning. What do you all think about it? Worth to send it (or not) to PCGS to grade it? I know that coin is not so good to do it, but the luster and toning could addict some value to it? The photo of the obverse shows a little of the toning I see in the coin in my hands. Any comments will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
The obverse looks XF-45 - AU50. Hair and beard shows a lot of circulation. Not worth the money it would cost to have it graded. Might have been polished.
Yea boy, that cent definitely held up didnt it? It sounds corny, but I wonder what its life has been like? Well taken care of, obviously. Was it a shut in, like that pretty cousin, or proudly displayed like some trophy wife. Either way that's an awesome coin, and I seriously am in need of some sleep.
Looks cleaned and rim ding at "liberty" Think it will be kicked out. Its a xf-au is my thought on a Details grade. I actually have 5-6 1909 non VDB Red's to compare to. Good luck
It looks circulated and harshly cleaned to me. Worth only a few dollars and no way it would straight grade.
My thanks to you all for your comments. I really don't matter myself if this coin was or wasn't cleaned. I longed to have this 1909 VDB in my collection. To me the only thing that matters is that I have the first generation of Lincoln Cent minted, and that coin is really beatiful in my hands. I would love to have that penny on a slab, but my costs for doing this in Brazil are very expensives, because we don't have PCGS representatives offices here. Any way, I'm proud to have that coin. Thank you all again. Walter
It's been cleaned so it would get a details if sent in. Leave it raw. It's starting to tone/retire which is nice.
