Looks like I'm late yet again to the party as I wanted to develop zoomable 360 photos like CNG just started using. Seems to work well from what I can see.
Here's a GIF of a favorite from 111. Allows one to see the depth and toning of the incuse that a typical still-shot won't allow. Image source: https://cngcoins.com/Coin.aspx?CoinID=381106 Great idea and useful tool. I wonder if this will add to the hammer.
ACR had a few of the nicer coins in the same 360 format when I bought my Agathokles tetradrachm (avatar coin). It definitely fed my fervor!! It was helpful to see the edges and everything since I couldn't be there in person.
This is quite an impressive technology. The only problem I have is that the reverse is often at some weird angle. But it does give an interesting new perspective on the coin.... and yes I imagine that that will translate into better prices. Really like the innovation by CNG... I'm a big fan of HJB's videos as well. These are great for collectors like me who buy primarily online and don't get to go to shows often! Anyone know what the waxy-looking material is that they're propping up the coin with?
Nice photo, but not innovative, ACR did it 5 years ago without the coin holder being in the photo. And by the way this Sybaris nomos hammered 2200 pounds less than a year ago, the provenance is of course forgotten and I am fed up being the underbidder to dealers buying to resell for a profit
If you are routinely underbidding to re-selling dealers, then I respectfully suggest your max bids are too low.
Harlan Berk in his latest Buy or Bid sale has a similar though less elegant system in place for his coins on offer. With his system the coin is in someones hand and is manipulated to show off the coin.
@David@PCC I love it! I can't wait for it to become commonplace. It manages to get into the shot all of those things that a (two dimensional) photo does not and therefore requires a number of photos to show Toning, Profile , Edge, Thickness, Image Definition, (etc.) and on both sides, too. How do we learn the process?
You will need a program to do this. I wanted to make a free open source one, but I already have too many projects as is.
