It is a L.M. cent double -head to head off set stamping , but with V D B( or 8) stamping on the conjoined twin. What could have been the source of this error?I never noticed it until recently.though I have owned it for nearly 20 years.
What would the worth be at estimation? Anyone seen one similar?

It's known as a Double Struck Cent.

In this case, the 2nd strike is about 98% Off Center.

They're fairly common, and your coin is worth about
$20 retail, with that small of a 2nd strike.

The source of the error is that the coin did not
eject fully from the striking collar, and that little
bit of it was over the collar when the Dies struck
    it again, 98% off center.

Does the die leave these oddities on many off sets that I can see for comparison?

Nice find. It just barely made that second strike but you got all of the VDB. :)
