Okay Folks, NGC finally weighed in on the grade of this coin; I will reveal when the coin returns to me. The photos provided are what I had to work with when I bought this online. Guess the grade. @Rheingold @ma-shops @lordmarcovan @furryfrog02 @Eduard @paddyman98 @spirityoda @Pickin and Grinin @Randy Abercrombie @chrisild @JCro57 @Chris B @Heavymetal @kanga @PlanoSteve @Michael K
I'd not be surprised to see AU50. 53? I'd be mildly surprised. I'm hedging my bets on the conservative side by saying XF45. I do think some of the flatness probably is strike-related, but I still don't see 55-58 there. If I'm wrong- and I could very well be- well, then good for @Seattlite86.
With the photos provided I am having a hard time seeing surfaces and high points that have been disturbed that excessively. But this is not my area. I would defer to you if we were walking a show. @lordmarcovan
I’d call it XF45, possibly AU, although recognizing that at least SOME of the missing detail may result from a weak strike. Wouldn’t surprise me, though, if NGC — who had the coin in hand — graded it higher, but I’d be amazed at anything over AU55. Whatever the case congrats on a really handsome item. D.
I'm not going to venture a guess on the grade as world coins are too far out of my wheelhouse. I just wanted to chime in to say that is a fantastic piece.
It’s not just a “world coin” but a hammered medieval coin. Not ancient, not modern either... pretty tough to grade when you usually look at half dollars and gold! I know the grade, that’s why I don’t want to comment any further.
