i just recently purchased this 1898 morgan silver dolla from an auction. it is graded and slabbed from a company called original coin certifiers(who i have never heard of). it wasnt to super expensive. just curious if it deserves the grade it got. i will reveal the grade after i have a few responses. thanks in advance.
I'm not going to open my mouth on grading Morgans. I seem to grade higher than most, so that should say something without saying anything. Ribbit - Ribbit - Ribbit
Ms 64, maybe higher. I see no high-point rub or luster disturbance to indicate anything but an MS grade. The scans make it hard to judge though...MIke
they are scans not photos. thank you all for your input. here is what it graded out as. i thought the grade was pretty high that is why i had posted it. definetly not PL. i ended up getting the coin for $30. i do have one more question. i am just starting to get into morgans how can i tell that a coin has been cleaned or not??? thank once again for eveyone's input
I would say AT VERY LEAST AU55, do to the fact i cant tell if those are wear marks on the hair by her ear. But everything else makes me think its a weak strike, SO at very most Its MS64, Again if thats not wear on the obverse. With all that said, Im personaly leaning MS64.
Agreed. It doesn't have too many chatter marks in the obverse fields, and I don't see any wear in the usual spots on a circulated Morgans. MS-64 perhaps?
Id say MS 63-64. Clean surfaces and nice hair detail. Nice looking coin. Hopefully it's just the pics that make it look dull. Guy~
Man, it's no wear (pun intended ) near MS-67 PL, lol, but still not a half bad coin. I can't tell if that is wear, or what on the coin, so I'll refrain from grading. Not trying to put your coin down, but I hope it looks better in hand than it does in the pics. :thumb: Phoenix
