I recently acquired this: http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/scan0012-5.jpg http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/scan0013-5.jpg Could I get a little help on where it was minted, circulated and value? In case you can't see it it's an 1806. clembo
Obv looks like a George III, I found the obverse type on several of the post colonial issues in the Redbook, look in Vermont, Virginia and a cpl others Funny, I found the reverse on the North Wales Halfpenny, page 80 of the '08 Redbook I cannot find one paired, just the two sides on different coins..... I am looking in the spiral 08' if your page numbers do not match up
It was minted in Ireland. Looks like it could be a half penny. Check out http://www.irishcoinage.com/MILLED.HTM .
It should be a farthing. I use Craig for coins of this era (First Edition printed 1966). In 1805, the half penny and penny of this design were minted. The farthings were minted the next year. I believe Hobo's link also points to this information. No idea what it's worth, but over 40 years ago it was valued at about $1.50!
"Hibernia" definately points to Ireland. And that's America's "old friend" King George III. As much as George was despised in the American colonies, I think in most parts of Ireland he would be despised even more! In fact, I'll bet many self respecting Irish wouldn't even want to handle that coin!
Done a little digging on ebay and am inclined to believe it's a half penny. Found it in a bag of wheaties (as in cents). Not worth a lot but cool. I do have a 1723 Hibernia as well so I knew it was Irish - well that and the harp. Thanks everyone. clembo
