I just bought this coin of eBay. I like Indians and don't need this but thought it was nice and the price was right. Any thoughts on grade and/or value would be greatly appreciated, based solely on the obverse. I've been collecting for a while but I really haven't concerned myself with grades or market value - I usually just buy whatever I want for what I feel like is a good price. I'm working to get a better handle on the market so any opinions are appreciated as it helps me learn. There's no pic of the reverse and the seller has a total of 11 transactions so maybe this will turn out poorly, who knows.

    Thanks.

It looks to be a nice AU. I would hesitate to buy anything that does not have a photo of the reverse. Generally the reverse comes along for the ride with respect to the grade. It can’t pull the coin up if it’s better, but it can sure pull it down if there is a problem.

Thanks John. I figured it was AU’ish. We’ll see whenever I get it hand, hopefully in a day or two.

When you get the coin post some photos both obv. and rev.

Well this didn't go great. The coin I received was a G-4ish 1892 IHP. Hello eBay's return policy to get my $7 back....

The reverse must be really bad? Is it worth the time and postage to return?

Sounds like you have been caught in a bate and switch. The obverse of the OP is definitely better than Good.

Joe, what kind of ebay rating did the seller have?

By looking only at obverse side of coin I would say AU-50.

I don't know other members experience but I've returned a few items purchased on ebay. Each time, I was able to print out a prepaid return label and the buyer refunded my money including the postage that I paid when I bought the coin.

I saw a meme the other day: "I can either have relationships or point out grammar mistakes." Had to LOL. I hate it when others point out my errors if I haven't asked them to do so. So, with that in mind I just want to say it's "bait and switch" not "bate and switch." Uff da, I feel better.

Seller had basically no rating, maybe 10-12 transactions. The coin sent was not the coin pictured. Haven’t heard from the seller yet (no surprise). Will open case with eBay tomorrow.

An example of why I very seldom buy raw coins off ebay. Not knocking doing this, but too many issues with it now a days. Hopefully you hear back from the seller.

This happens only rarely for me, but in each case it was as you say, a prepaid return label was provided, and ebay refunded my money once the USPS showed that the item had been delivered. The items I return are usually ones where the coin was not as advertised.

I have an incident right now, though, where the seller provided a USPS tracking number, but the USPS has no record of that number ever having been issued. I notified the seller of this, but have not received a response so far. The coin was purchased on 5/10/19, but in checking this, I see that his other auctions show that he is out of town indefinitely—that is, there is no date listing his return. I don't think I missed this 11 days ago, but I could have.

As for that 1892 IHC, I bought one from a well-known CT member that borders on MS for a good deal more than $7; in fact, I have three that total $147 on my spreadsheet. That would have been a steal for the OP if the reverse were as good as the obv in the photo.
