I am unsure if this is anything at all. I think it may be a die chip in top of bay of memorial east of Lincoln. Is this correct or no.
I don't understand how it could be nothing, it is a raised bump and distorts the top of columns. Also think there is a die chip and possibly die cracks off east corner of lower roof.
its a 1966 penny, its nothing to write home to mom about. minor die chip, these happened all the time through them years. that's what I meant. and you asked. those are weak spots in the dies that are prone to get minor chips, the value of the coin was 2 cents and it did not change with the minor error. I have a lot of them. and its au, the only reason its worth 2 cents is the copper.
Meow has found 2 so far. They both are in the left most column space. They are big enough to see without too much magnification. Yours is miniscule, but Meow does think it is a very small die chip.
I understand it's not of much value just want to be able to identify correctly when I see something. I was happy, I have been only doing this since november,I think. And have looked at 300$ ish worth of pennies and it is the first one I found.
Its all good, I find unique things, and just keep them, or I also bought a digital microscope to study coins, I just enjoy the hobby.
youll find small chips quite often, especially like me, I don't typically buy circulated stuff, but I find chip in dies and see patterns, years they did not replace the broken dies or did not consider it done with its useful time.
Copper Lincolns do not contain 2 cents worth of copper, for 2 reasons: 1. It is not Grade A copper. This is what the price of copper is based on. 2. It costs more to extact the copper than the copper is worth. Even if it were legal to melt cents for their copper, the price of copper would have to be above $5 per pound, and that won't happen anytime soon. I, too, had many copper cents I was keeping until I got educated from the people who know here at CoinTalk. I keep only those AU58 or better, and those are getting very hard to find now, even CRH. Spark
Extremely small die chip and it does not increase the value over face. Keep looking and you'll find a decent die chip one day, die cracks too. I can't resist, you said facing east. That would be the case if I was facing north but I'm facing south so it's to the west.
I don't think I do spark, the reason, is actually you wont find anyone to pay you more than a cent for a copper penny unless it is somewhat of value. you can buy bu rolls of them witch carry a small premium, so when you start doing your math, your missing the market, its worth a cent. I generally give benefit of doubt when Im being honest as to not upset the other party.
