Hey fellow coin peeps, For you Large Cent fanatics, here's one for you to grade & type: Ribbit - Ribbit - Ribbit
F details, edge damage, net VG. That said, it is a nice coin with good color...and attractive (more than you can say for most liberty caps), edge issues notwithstanding. Thanks for sharing...Mike
Still a newb at grading, but I'll give it a shot. Fine obverse, Very Good reverse with edge damage. Great coin though, Congrats!
I would say Fine 12 obvwerse, VG 8 reverse. I you are following this coin, please be attentive to the weigt indication. Seller says it weighs 15 grams. That sounds a bit too high for coins of this type which were supposed to weigh nominally 13.48 grams. Regards, Eduard
I see what you're saying. Plus or minus 13.5g isn't anywhere close to 15g. I wonder if he's using a hanging scale? Or maybe he took it to the local butcher and they have their meat scales calibrated in their favor? :mouth: If not, I will need to back off. I'll message him to see if he'll re-weigh it or let me know how he weighed it? Thanks for catching that! Ribbit, Toad :smile
So much for that coin. I should have kept my mouth shut till the auction was over. I learned a lesson. Ribbit, Toad
It may be too late and a mistake made if you wait til after the auction. While I do not know which auction you are referring too I would probably have netted the coin out at F details. Still as mentioned you can do better. I also am a firm believer in determing the price you will bid and stopping at that. I have actually PM'ed a few people to look at auctions for me - I figure what I will bid and leave it at that. So if you bid less than that what you were willing to bid and lost - that is your fault. If you bid what you were willing to pay and lost - then someone over paid for the coin. At least that is my philosophy - I am to the point where I buy more from dealers than from ebay. I know it can still happen, but I am not one who will win a $200 coin for $10 - I have no luck. I would rather have something I know about in advance. Now time to go post my two new additions. Also keep in mind I continually watch large cents and will peg the auctions I am looking at early on. Then I may or may not bid. I just can not believe what the coins go for sometimes on ebay - so I lose a whole bunch of auctions.
On the weekends, I usually won't bid because of how high the prices go. I do most of my shopping during the week, when prices are lower but still on certain items, they go for a lot, like that cent went for today. I find it amazing what great deals I can get but on something I'd like for myself, it goes for more than I'm willing to spend. I guess I must have good taste? :mouth: Ribbit, Toad :smile
Yeah - there are better deals during the week, but not if I bid before work. Then everyone goes ape "crazy" on the coin. I really do not worry about sniping anymore - with me it does not make a difference, bid on 10 and if I am lucky I win one.
I believe through a combination of wear and discoloration that gal has been given a bad nose enlargement job. So, no, it's not you! dd:
Leadfoot is closer than he realized. that is an S-65 in the terminal die state. (The reverse die is going to pieces and sinking.) Frankly I think it is an even later state than the termial state listed in the Breen large cent encyclopedia. That make it very appealing to the late state collectors. Unfortunately the damage hurts it badly. Without the damage it would probably grade a full F-12. With the dents it would be lucky to net as an AG-3.
That's why I didn't bid too high on it. While it's an awesome coin to own, the damage makes it less attractive than a coin with no damage/problems and only graded AG-3/G-4. I'll just have to wait until another one pops up that is within the price range I'm willing to spend for it. But whoever "won" that coin, got a good deal! Ribbit :smile
