If I don’t get a new coin per day... I go through withdrawal.

no joke... this morning I was going through the hoard to build rolls to sell back to the bank to, go and buy more, lol. Do you get that too?

    Anyways... Poppa to the rescue!
I received his package in the mail not too long ago. A twelve coin 1867-1992 Canadian Quarter 125 year Confederation set (not pictured) along with a single 2007 D Lincoln penny (not pictured) and 4 loose coins, 2 of which I have no clue. The 2006 10$ Peso and the 1927 Confederation Medallion were easy.

What are the other 2? I doubt my dad even knows. I think he wore the one with a hole on a chain around his neck.

One of your top coins looks like a Thai Baht.

Yes, top left Thai 10 baht coin of Rama IX, and the other chinese cash. The obverse is upside down btw.

Unfortunately, I can't tell you for sure what the other coin you have is. My guess is- it's an ancient Wen Zong Chinese "Cash" from the 1850s.

The cash coin is upside down. It’s from the reign of the emperor Qianlong (1735-1796), which makes this very common. It’s made at the Board of Revenue mint in Beijing.

I used to feel this way. Sometimes I wonder if part of the reason I bought coins was just to have something to look forward to when the mail came. Now I don't really buy online anymore. It makes the mail less exciting. But I also felt like often by the time the coin arrived I was a little over it. The thrill was finding it and getting the deal and checking something off my list. It was anticlimactic to get the coin in hand and put it aside to be sorted properly later.

Being still so new to the sport, I find it curious that we put so much value on pieces of earth with art on them. Quite honestly, I’m not really a collector of physical things. I used to have a large assortment of books when I worked in a bookstore but then I got rid of them because I’d read a chapter and fall asleep. I used to have a vast movie collection but then realized collections had to be protected from crime and I sold the lot. The musical instruments I used to have... visiting band members really didn’t have to bring their own gear in my house until I found out about pawn shops and other cash in hand needs. I’m sure at some point, the excitement will level out and I wonder if at that point when my cupboards are bare, the 1000’s of $’s I’ve hoarded will get spent.

Collecting can be hot and cold like this for some people. You'll see a lot of people on this forum talking about coins they used to have. Only they can say why they sold them, but often for whatever reason you find that your tastes change or priorities shift. Personally I had been trying to collect all the dates in every series, and then one day it dawned on me that it was an impossible task and I didn't want to do that anymore. Once I had that thought, I had no trouble letting go of a lot of redundant coins. Sometimes you just need some distance, too. I might look back at coins I haven't really looked at in a long time and find new appreciation for them. Personally I just bought a house, and I've had a lot of my childhood things like baseball cards in storage for years. I'm eager to get them out and look and see what I have. It will be kind of new again.

I am on a "coin high". For me, that means adding 50 AV coins to my collection @ year/ about 1 per week. Thus, I have to work my butt off to pay for the auction invoices:(
April was really good, I added 14.

I had to Google AV coin. Avatar coin or Ancient coin?

I haven’t yet been to an auction but have been curious about police auctions... I have looked and liked some pricing but the shipping cost has keep me from going further. I’m still looking for my first slabbed coin within my budget.

Could someone please help me identify this coin. I think it is Chinese or Japanese. It has similar symbols to other coins but it has markings on the back that I can’t match.

I am developing FOMO regarding coin roll hunting! I am out of rolls and the banks are closed!
