Last year I tried my luck with a large group of Roman Sestertii and I was very happy with the results. The coins were nice and I had a lot of fun attributing them, which is something I don’t get to do very often these days. Well, I’m trying my luck again, and just won a group of 50 folles. At about $13.75 a piece all in, I’ve got my fingers crossed I made another good purchase. I’ll update the thread when they come in. I feel alive!
Looks like a good bet at the price you paid. I look forward to seeing more. Looks like you'll probably have enough Thessalonica IOVI CONSERVATORI.
Did you get these from CNG? If so, you outbid me. Congratulations. I hope you find many outstanding coins in the lot. FYI, I won a similar lot of 100 coins the month before (which is why I bid low this time). Mostly Licinius, mostly IOVI CONSERVATORI, like yours, but with a lot of interesting variations. I was very pleased with the results. I think you will be, too.
Yup, that's the one. Thanks for the feedback. I only have one other large module follis and I really like it and have always wanted a a batch of them to go through.
“Over-cleaned" would have been a more accurate description, but some nice coins in the bunch. 37 Licinius, 10 Constantine I, and three others I haven’t ID’d. I thought these were larger than they are.
I might use Jax on the bare metal spots, though I’ve never tried it before. The glare makes them look rougher than they actually are.
Looks good. Just curious, what are your plans with the lot? Are they going into your collection? Selling off the duplicates? Something else?
I have no idea. I’m open to suggestions. At first I didn’t really like them, but now I kinda do—at least this half. The others aren’t terrible, but some pitting or wear that is a bit distracting.
