It's just "rust". If a quarter has been in the ground, and then recovered, they
will often look like this. The water, air, soil etc. react with the clad layers which are made of copper and nickel, and it changes the silvery color to this darker color.
Copper is a much brighter color than this.

Here are a few quarters I dug up last Sunday, you can see this is common.

This is what a coin would look like if it came directly from the Mint missing the clad layer.

    Here ya go @Cheech9712 !

That coin is so perfect. Got to be the most perfect example of a coin missing its clad layer. Priceless

I have never had much luck finding nickel in the soil I hunt. My brother had a treasure hunter that only picked up Nickel.

I think of your coin EVERY TIME someone mentions a member asks about a copper colored coin. I think its so cool that you take the time to show your gem so everyone can see what the real deal looks like

I decided that whenever this happens, I will "tag" you just to make you feel good that day.

I'm not sure if that lighting of that picture does your coin its justice. Can see enough of this coin to enjoy it as well. God best for your showing. But @cpm9ball has my dream coin
