Oh, were you one of the folks who urged expansion back when I was still under the Box of 20 rule? I forget now.

Re. my earlier comment to @spirityoda about the Persian gold toman:
Here's the one I bought Mom 20 years ago. I brought my coins on the trip with me (to work on an album for them), so I'll have to compare mine and hers in hand later.

Hers cost me $150-ish from a sight-unseen mail bid auction around 1998. Mine in this collection cost me closer to $500-ish when I bought it a year or two ago.

Mine graded MS62 at PCGS (pop. 5/0, so it's tied with four others for highest graded). Mom's could be AU or low MS. I don't know.

    Mom's 1817 toman:

I went and googled images of Zurich after my post and thought the same thing. The first image you posted has an interesting church to the left that I googled as well. It turns out that twin towered church called the "Grossmünster" was completed in 1220. The church below that image on the left is the "Fraumünster" which was completed in 853? So yeah, they would be the same as depicted in 1739. There's a lot of history on that coin....:)

That's a very nice curated collection! It looks like a true collection and not just a hoard. You are collecting what you enjoy and what appeals to you and not what the magazines, blogs and "investors" are saying to grab and hold on to, which is fantastic. Every coin in that collection has something interesting about it, so I can't even come close to claiming a favorite (though I have a weakness for medieval coins, so I tended to linger more in your "Medieval & Early Modern Coins" section). I also have a "silver sword" demi-gros, though yours is less clipped than mine. You also have a really nice King John penny. And it's great to see both Greenland and Lundy featured prominently in a collection! I really like how your collection seems to have boundaries and doesn't just expand like the universe. This is exactly how I want to collect, namely, quality over quantity, so thanks for the inspiration!

    Perfect comment. Thanks.

No sterile "investment portfolio" collection for me. I mean, there's nothing wrong with that- and I had fun on the PCGS Registry for a while- but I've got to walk the road less traveled sometimes. I like stuff you don't see every day.

W!O!W! I don't know if I'm IMPRESSED, Shocked or flabbergasted!!?!?! What could be said about that collection? It makes me want to be a writer, just so I could describe it.
    Whew!
I'm going to have to research it a little more, to get the feeling or to understand it, but I liked the Belgium, "copper communion token circa 1680". It wasn't easy to pick a favorite out of all those, and I'm sure if I looked at them 10 more times, I'd probably come away with 10 different favorites!
Very nice my friend, very nice.

    Foo out

P.S. AND THERE'S NAKED CHICK'S ON THAT ONE COIN!!!

This was the update before last, and was posted before a big purge I made in March. Since this was posted, there has been a big turnover and a whole lot of the coins seen here are gone- but a whole lot of new stuff has come in since then as well.

I was about to post a new update this morning (May 14th) but hit a snag with some of the pictures. I'll be posting that soon. In the meantime, all the current lineup is visible in the main gallery on Collectivecoin.

I hope that you still have the Byzantine Justinian gold tremissis.

    I just love the reverse!

I do. That one survived the purge, which was done to pay off my credit cards and give me a little peace of mind.

Those card balances have since crept up again (partly due to unforeseen circumstances), so I might do another sale in the near future. But if and when I do, it probably won't put everything on the table like the last one did.

I also am impressed by the breadth and quality of your collection. I intend to learn how to display at least part of my collection online the way you do. I did not see the Victoria copper in there, but I did see the sailor boy! Glad he is back home.

If you mean that Canadian medal you sent me, that is at PCGS as we speak, and if it straight-grades, it will have a place in the Eclectic Box eventually.
