Anyone finding anything good that might have been released into the wild during the Great American Coin Hunt? I have not found anything, but have released about this much into the wild. Still have this pile to release. Slowly, since I don't use cash much, but I will let it all out there eventually!
I always pay with debit card. I should walk into a gas station, "this is a stickup, give me all your change" hehe. Ill pay with debit.
One of the members of my local coin club may have scored a find due to the hunt. In a roll of dimes he found a 1908 quarter eagle.
I have not found anything as of yet. I always use cash for person to person transactions. I went to the local grocery store though to buy my darling husband some of his favorite treats when he was due home from a business trip. The total came to $14 and some change. I pulled out a quarter tube and I bravely paid for the majority with silver quarters! ( loved it!) *Plot twist.. The cashier was so angry that I counted out the quarters a dollar at a time to her that she let out a breath and proceeded to literally slam each stack of four on her counter! What!!!?? As I took by bag to leave repeated a quote by Thomas A. Edison that my father had taught me.. "Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work" ..That woman doesn't know her attitude provided an opportunity to have the experience wind up an even better one for me!
If you spend a wheat penny its not likely people can figures its a wheat penny because the obverse of the coins looks familiar to pennies after 1958. When a non-collector gets unusual coins in changes or collections they check the value first. If they checked the value of a dateless buffalo, most websites say its only worth face value making them spend the nickel. Silver Rosies and Washingtons may not work either since they look like clad ones=lost opportunity. Most people mostly threw wheat pennies back into circulation in the GACH most are common dates once they see its worth only a dime they spend it without realizing that if it was a 1 dollar coin its worth 10 dollars.
