Hey everyone! Here's a coin I've been waiting to get for quite some time now. Although cleaned, it has really nice detail with some original toning around the edges and a great overall appearance. :eat: Let me know what ya'll think!
I would never invest in a cleaned comm half. I have bought 2 complete type sets one at a time between 1957-and 1968. I could never be happy with a cleaned, circulated or damaged one. They have to be atleast ms64 or better..In those day's, collectors bought them BU or nothing..They didn't have MS grades.
Must be nice to be rich , I like MS coins the best too , but paying $10,000 to $100,000 or more is a pipe dream for me , but your sets must have been awesome . rzage
Ryan, I think it's a great coin! It's a tough date, and not very affordable in the upper echelon MS-64+ grades, so sometimes comprimising originality for a coin like this is fulfilling...especially being as young as you are. There are naysayers that will never "belittle" themselves enough to purchase a cleaned coin; but comeon, this is the real world. Cleaned coins need a home too, and everyone has a different budget.
Ryan, I didn't mean to belittle the coin you bought..I didn't even look at it when I wrote my reply. It's really a nice coin..I couldn't afford a MS65 today either at $2,500.
The reverses eagle is similar to the morgan eagle, not a friendly Ike eagle, that is one dont mess with me eagle.
Thanks everyone for you comments and thoughts! As some of you have mentioned, it'll be very hard to afford an MS example of one of these, especially at the age I'm at. All I care about is that I'm happy with the coin and am glad I finally got it.
If you're happy then that's what really counts. Personally I really like that coin, I like the gold coin as well but that is truly out of my league. I bought a Panama Pacific token as a compromise last Saturday. I'll have to post a pic when I figure out the camera stuff. I'd like to get one of those like you have but it will be awhile as I have other things on my list before that one. :thumb:
I like the coin personally cleaned or not. Ryan if you like it buy it will retone in time and it is a good coin. Iam on the look out for one also..
Nice looking coin, Ryan, I really like the design and will own one someday! I think all of the Pan-Pac designs are neat, especially the bronze medal and the 1$ gold (I might be able to afford those!) As to the $50 oct. and round pieces... I can still dream!
For informational purposes, since May, three MS65 examples (2 of them NGC and 1 PCGS) have sold in Heritage sales for less than $1500. A number of others have brought less than $2000.
Mmmmmmmmm, nice. Some of those early commemoratives seem to have been designed with more artistic imagination than others. This is definitely one of those. I dabble in the early commemoratives and yours is one I don't have. Nor will I ever in MS. I'll keep searching around until I find an AU that appeals to me.
Wow! I likes! :eat: Your collection is growing and growing. It's so nice to watch others building their collection and you are adding such wonderful coins to yours! :thumb: Ribbit
The Pan Pacific is a beautiful design. There is nothing wrong with buying a cleaned coin, especially if the price is right, especially if the coin is difficult to find. There is nothing wrong with collectors that prefer to buy original looking coins either. As always, collect what you like, and enjoy the hobby. If that means cleaned coins, by all means go for it. If that means original looking coins, same deal.
Thanks everyone! In my opinion I think that this is one of the top designed coins that I've ever seen, which is a part of the reason why I got it. Not to mention it's low mintage and great eye appeal. :eat:
I agree the Pan-Pac coins are in a league of their own and are among the most beautiful commem designs made. Congrats on a great looking coin. Nothing wrong with a cleaned coin when something better is not obtainable, I have a few cleaned coins myself and love every one of them.
Thought I would bump this old thread. Almost 10 years ago I commented that someday I would own a Pan Pac half, and maybe the gold dollar. Now I have both! Post yours, if you have them, or any exonumia from the exposition, it's all good!
