I was browsing online and came across this deal, which I thought was pretty awesome. Its a complete set of Lincoln Memorial pennies, minus the 1970-S small date cent, from 1959-2007. All coins are guaranted to be in BU condition. The set includes 109 pennies. Included are both the small and large date 1960 P+D's as well as all seven 1982 varieties. They throw in an extra coin to show the reverse of one in the album, bringing the total to 109 coins. The price is only $24.95 plus S/H. Is this a good deal?

Ok, so his set has 104 coins, and the one I was looking at has 109 coins. His says that its a COMPLETE set of all regular issue P,D, and S mints. But I know that the 1970 S small date goes for about $70 alone. How do I know which coins he does NOT have in his "complete" set?

It depends on what the sets look like. I have bought 3 sets of them now. For 2, that would have been a fair to good price, IMHO. For the third, it is way too much. Not knowing just what you are going to get (and I found your seller), I cannot answer the question.

FYI - I believe that the seller needs to check his math. I believe that there are 109 cents from 1959 - 2007 (excluding the 70-S small date). If he is including an extra for the reverse, his total should be 110

That is the same thing I found except it was their eBay listing. I cannot see what the coins look like. Can you?

All I can say is that their feedback is pretty good, but I still do not like their math.

If they have a good return policy, I would probably try for it, if not, I'd pass. Don't know if they are cleaned, messed with, etc. Best of luck to you. :thumb:

"How do I know which coins he does NOT have in his "complete" set?"

Seeing as it is 5 coins less I would assume that he only has 1 each of the 1982 P and D and has excluded the varieties of that year

OK! Where did the 5 coins come from. There are 109 coins described including all 7 varieties of the 1982.

I have bought a couple of these myself (and one for my nephew). I think it was a good deal - all were in very good uncirc. condition (and bright red) except the cent showing the reverse, both of those were spotted. (I bought two sets)
They came in a Dansco folder which was made of a heavier cardboard than the Whitmans. (I did not even know Dansco made these)
As for the company - I have bought stuff from them from time to time, and I have not had any problems - except the shipping is the slowest of anyone I have bought from.

Remember, BU is a rather low grade.
I believe it is equivalent to the MS-60 to MS-62 range.
Coins in those grades (especially modern coins) probably have problems that you won't like.
    Look for better.
