For an opened set (not in the sealed mint shipping box), it is a good price today. But, be careful of cherry picking, and people make sets from non-20th anniversary set coins.
how will the paperwork confirm that the coins have not been cherry picked and they are in fact the original coins that came in the box (other than the reverse proof)
well there are three boxes.....They are opened of course, but if the coins were cherry picked.....as long as there is the Proof, Reverse Proof, and burnished is there really a difference????I dont plan on gettting them graded. So is it better to buy a sealed set???
At least you would be the first to see the coins. The problem is, you will pay considerably more. Probably in the $500 range.
I really don't see what difference it makes if the proof and the Unc were taken from their single boxes and put in the sets... as long as the coins are there and they are in decent condition... (I assume you will be able to look at the coins before buying)
The Proof & Unc coins that came in the Th anniversary sets are no different than the Proof and Unc coin that were sold singly. The only coin that you can be sure is a 20th anniv. coin is the Reverse Proof. I have 5 sets from the US Mint and I opened them all to look at them. I have not had them graded as I like them as they are. $300 a set is a very good price for the 3 coin set. Examine all 3 coins to ascertain that they are still unharmed and in high unc. and high proof states. Bruce
$300 is a great deal. My fiance has been looking into getting this set and found it for $380, and that was the cheapest that we could find. Everything on Ebay was $400 and up.
Sealed set: Grading companys would put the set in the 20th anniversary holders. If opened it did'nt get the 20th anniversary holders(hence the lower value). So i assume the MS & PF silver eagles from the set will get the regular holder if opened. Same for the reverse proof i assume.
