Funny thing happened - I was telling a friend about the web note at lunch break & naturally we had to check his 1s...he had a star.....which he sold me for $1. My 1st one
In addition to what others have said.... Comparing the Barr notes to the web notes really highlights the difference that hoarding makes. The printage totals for the two aren't all that different (~450 million Barrs, ~300 million webs). But the Barr notes were released at a time when currency collecting was popular, and were widely known to be "rare" and "valuable", and so huge quantities of them were saved, and they're still coming out of sock drawers to this day. In contrast, the web notes were issued without much fanfare at a time when far fewer collectors were active, so a significantly higher fraction of them circulated to oblivion. I've seen a number of Barrs in circulation since the last time I saw a web note in circulation, despite the fact that the Barr notes are twenty-odd years older.
The unique thing, as I understood it, was the fact that Barr is Only on the $1 - all the other denoms for the year have a different Sec. signature.
Can you please post a few examples of these notes cuz i'm interested and it's kindda french to me. You seem to be a good go to guy when bills are involved. Any help will tame my curiosity
Here is my example of a web note. You can read about them here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_notes
And this will help on the Barr dollar: https://www.reference.com/hobbies-games/barr-dollars-db0ba626e8f427cf
That middle 1 is off @furryfrog02 - I know now it's not enough to count but seriously! The Dude has 1 job..the Seal goes in the center!
Ha. I never noticed that TBH, they have been sitting in my safe since I found them a few years back. I had forgotten about them until this thread.
That's what my brother taught me to look at, the seal. Is it Green? Is it Centered? If either answer is no - hang on to it. There is Soo much more to it than that! But live & learn
