    Hey there!

I was going through some old keepsakes of mine that I inherited from my grandfather and found this old coin. I was wondering if it was real or a replica?
I know nothing about coins so thought I could ask the experts, it would be fun to know.
    TIA

    Looks legit to me.
    Looks to be:
    Maximianus Silvered AE Follis.
    301 AD.
Obverse: IMP MAXIMIANVS PF AVG, laureate head right
Reverse: SACRA MONET AVGG ET CAESS NOSTR, Moneta holding scales and cornucopiae, V to right.
    Mintmark AQS

Also, this would get more attention if it were moved to the "Ancients" section.

Looks odd to me. Could it be a coin that's been re-plated? Or maybe it's just the photo.

Looks very fake (cast) to my amateur eye.

It looks cast in white metal. The coin should be bronze and struck. It is a replica, likely cast from a real coin. Still, if it creates an interest in real ancient coins... it may have some educational value. You can buy an authentic one of these for $40 or so (sometimes less, sometimes more).

Here's one that is as close to yours as I have (@furryfrog02 's coin is the same as yours)... rather than Maximian (as yours is), mine is Galerius but from the same mint (Aquileia - see your AQS mint mark).

This one is scrappy but was only $15! So... authentic ones are affordable.

That was my first thought, too. Style looks good. So it's either a cast copy or a legit one that has been spray painted with silver Rust-Oleum.

Hey, @furryfrog02, never up, never in. I am far more likely to share my opinion now than I was three years ago when I joined CT. We learn by doing. I appreciate being corrected when I am wrong.

Yes, looks to be a fake. If I were you I would buy an authentic one just to set the matter straight.

I "accidentally" bought one of these. Mine is definitely a fake - not as expertly aged as the OP, but it looked really good in an off-focus eBay auction photo.
