I was looking through the Red Book and noticed that there is a listing for a 1964D double die rev. What exactly am I looking for. I couldn't find anything online. I was looking through some AU/MS rolls of 64D dimes and so far found 3 with what appears to be a doubled "D", but nothing else appears to be doubled. Any info would help.
Ok - Now I found one dime with a very, and I mean very, thin "D" mint mark. Not your typical mint mark that I have found on 99.9% of the other 64D dimes that I have looked at. Were there mint mark variations for this year?
OK - after much searching on line, I didn't find any pictures that I was satisfied. I found some good explanations on coin community.com and the NGC website. Much of the info that I found suggests that it may be mechanical doubling vs. a true double die. NGC also mentions that there are many re-punched mint mark variations. I may have this though, since only the D mint mark is doubled and not the motto. Any other input would be helpful.
