Hi, I got this with my change the other day. It is the same size and color and weight of a penny and has the raised edges but it has no face on either side. Let me know if u know. Thanks.
Hi Welcome to ct! Imho, what you have there is called a blank planchet. The blank would be put in the chamber to be struck after being cut. Yours looks like it hasn’t been struck. it’s difficult to tell if there is an image from your pictures. It also looks like it possibly has a clip? @paddyman98 what do you think?
Looks like a damaged type 2 planchet (has the proto rim from the upsetting mill). But pictures in focus would help. The mint has distributed them for years... in certain year's mint sets, as give-aways on tours, in the recent Kid's rocketship. And the old fashioned way, in a roll or bag. My 2c: worth a dime (undamaged) as a curiosity... Maybe more if you tell a good story on fleaBay.
Wow those were fast replies! I had to look up what a planchet was... and yes that is it. I had never seen one before. Definitely a conversation piece. Thanks for the info R_rabbit and Burton StrausS III
