Didn’t have anything in mind but picked some 90% with some very cool toners. Then on the way out I saw another regular Pulling into the lot. Started chatting and he said he was gonna sell a couple 1/10th oz AGE’s. One was a 2018 proof. I asked what he wanted and he said melt. Pulled out the cash and adios. Not a bad day today.

It's been a while since I've collected ancient coins but I was finally able to get a few Roman coins recently that I think are quite beautiful to look at!

The first piece is a silver denarius from the reign of Emperor Caracalla, which has a portrait of him on the front and an image of Apollo on the back. It was minted in Rome in about 214 C.E. and is a Choice VF that weighs 3.233 grams and has some small copper deposits below the portrait of Caracalla.

The next coin is a billon reduced centenionalis from the reign of Emperor Constantine, which his portrait on the front and a few soldiers holding up a standard on the back. It was minted in Constantinople (modern Istanbul) from about 330-333 C.E. and is also a Choice VF that weighs 2.221 grams and has a glossy black patina with reddish earthen deposits.

Lighting effect. But still... yeah, really cool "86" poking out of the dentils.

A nicely toned acquisition this week and an MS67 to boot. I need to get it under a microscope since the toning can hide a lot of sins. But I like the color and the grade.
