I came across this 84 and noticed that the memorial is showing thru the frontside of the coin,most noticable behind his neck and near his nose which can be clearly seen in the pics. On the backside there is a crack below the memorial as well. Pretty neat.
neat Die Clash. when the minting machine "stamps" with no planchet in the chamber. So some of the image is Impressed on the other die, and subsequently you'll get coins with slight images of the other side on it.
Thanks for the info,very neat stuff. I was thinking it may have been just some residue from another coin on top of it in the roll but I realized that it was actually in the coin.
Nice example of a clashed die. It's not worth much, but if I got this in change, I would keep it. It's definitely 2x2 worthy IMO
Cool clash. Always a fun find. I've seen them called "Prison Abe" or something along those lines before since it looks like he is behind bars.
Just google coin overlay.. Here is a Lincoln Memorial Cent overlay. Look at the Reverse especially in between the Memorial Building Columns and you will see more clashes
