Any idea what this penny would grade at clean mirror finish front and back thinking of sending off to either pcgs or ngc which would be better for grading thanks
Your pictures aren't good enough to give an accurate grade. That being said, even if it were perfect, it wouldn't be worth the $$ to send in.
Cool coin J S , the older memorial proofs typically are not cameo. cameo are worth a little more, depending on year, harder to find. keep it, they can be had for less than a dollar.
Also to answer your question, in my opinion, both of the grading companies you mentioned have pretty much equal respect in my opinion. also wanted to mention, you can still buy the older whole proof sets from the us mint, with the phone app. if you want a complete set, their affordable.
The sell on eBay for PCGS PR69 around $5.00 and PR70 around $30. Make sure all of your grading costs, shipping expenses, time, etc are well below those amounts. Unless, of course, you just like to get everything that looks nice graded.
Thank u all for ur information so why are proof coins from the 50 60 and early 70s boring looking just a high mirror finish to them front and back also the letters in proofs are alot more clear than in business stiles why is that?
Another thing I forgot to mention is my coin has developed a tiny white spot that i don't remember it having and what is it? My coin is currently in a sandwich baggy.
OH, yea you are rite, that's www.govmint.com my mistake, I was watching a graduation thumbing through. no wounder I couldent find it from my laptop..
1973 Proof coins were minted in San Francisco. I don’t see an S mm on your pictures (but hard to tell with your pics). If there’s no mm, it’s a Business strike from Philadelphia. It’s not a good idea to store it in a plastic bag. There could be interactions between the plastic and coin surface. I can’t say if this caused the white spot, but it certainly doesn’t help
Thanks and this is definitely not a business stike I have 10 of those in brilliant uncirculated condition there not even close this coin was pulled from a proof set a cople years back extremely mirror and the details are very clean and Sharpe compared to my other 73s I just notice the no s tho now that u mentioned it. I did read about the 1960s and 1970s proofs with no s era at that time.
1973 was the year when the mint first started trying to ensure that all Proofs were cameo. Prior to '73, only the coins struck when the dies were fairly fresh had cameo, that's what makes Proofs with cameo dated before '73 so scarce. Because once the cameo effect wore off the dies, they would simply keep right on striking the coins. It was in '73 that they stopped this practice. Once the cameo wore off the dies, they replaced the dies with fresh dies, so all the Proofs would be cameo. But, since '73 was the 1st year they did this, a few examples of non-cameo managed to slip by the inspectors and get packaged up and shipped out. By '74. non-cameo Proofs were downright scarce.
I will definitely take new pictures with my better quality camera of the coin front and back for u guys I'll take them as close and clear as possible.
So I'm back with many more pictures I even had the guts to take it out of the baggy for u guys and these pics are as good as it gets enjoy.
