1983 Copper nickel please help

    Trying to see if someone may be able to help me identify this coin and if it is genuine. I understand these were made in 82-83 and can be rare. Which leads be to believe it's too good to be true but I'm hoping it is real.

    Sorry but it is not an error. It suffered environmental damage. Your coin looks like it was buried in the ground.

    Not sure where you're getting your info, but nothing significant happened to nickels in 1982-3 that would lead to more errors

    Nickels are made of Cupro-Nickel.. It actually contains copper in it. When exposed to the environment it will change the color.
    As stated before it's Environmental Damage.

    Here are examples from my Metal Detecting finds. It happens on Clad Coins which are also made of Cupro-Nickel

    Also.. If It were struck on a copper Planchet that would be called a Wrong Planchet error. But it would then be the same size, width and weight if a copper cent planchet which yours is obviously not.
