This listing just came across on eBay: LOT of 15 Silver Clad Kennedy Half Dollars 1965-1969 & 1973D Eisenhower Dollar ...but while the staples are dissolving away, the coins themselves look relatively untouched. How did this happen? I guess the mylar linings of the 2x2s were still intact enough to keep the coins mostly dry and anoxic. I won't be buying it, not unless it goes well below spot, but it did catch my attention.
Looks like someone's basement flooded and they're trying to recoup some money to pay for the cleaning crew.
80% silver/20% copper clad over an 80% copper/20% silver core, right? It's the terminology I'm used to seeing...
Excessive humidity would be my guess. And it just hasn't had time to affect the coins yet, at least on the obv. But if ya look at the rev pics, it's started there.
