I finished my version of a US typeset a month or so ago. After thinking about what to work on next, I came up with two areas: 1. Early US commemoratives 2. Keys and semi-keys in better grades Here's my latest commemorative: This is only #13 so I have a long way to go. As for the keys/semi-keys I decided to start with the IHCs since I didn't have any except in my typeset. First one I got was the 1908-S (PCGS MS-65RB) I just got my second one. See here: This is a POP 1/0 coin. There are better ones. PCGS has one in MS-67. And between PCGS and NGC there are about 25 in MS-66RB or MS-66Red. Mine is the only MS-66BN. I think I'll keep it. Now on to the 1877 (but nowhere near that grade.)
Aren't those conflicting statements? Doesn't POP 1/0 mean there is a population of ONE coin at this grade and ZERO at higher grades? If there are higer graded coins it wouldn't be a POP 1/0. Or so it would seem to me. Congrats on your purchases. You have very discerning taste in buying coins. The two coins shown are very attractive. The '09-S IHC has to be the best I have ever seen.
As I understand it, a "population number" indicates how many of a particular grade exist. Maybe the correct term for my coin is "POP 1" since it's the only one in that grade. You may be correct that it's not 1/0. I do know there are better coins.
Because it views BN and RB and RD coins as separate coins, when they are not... That said, I don't disagree with you. Personally, I'd prefer a nice 65 RB from a 66 RD all day and twice on Sunday. However the market (and prices) seem to disagree....Mike
Stunnung 09 S IHC. I think you'll really enjoy collecting Indian Head cents. Especially if you're looking for the higher grades. Bruce
There are some collectors aggressively hunting ultra grade BN Lincolns. They are looking to complete sets of 64, 65, 66 BN Linolns. Great pickup on the 09-S.
